How to use it

    GPA and CGPA

    Open the GPA & CGPA tab. Name the semester (for example 2025_1), then add each course code, credit units, and letter grade. The semester GPA updates as you type. Save the semester and repeat. CGPA is calculated from every semester you save.

    Open the Course grade tab. Enter the TMA mark out of 30 and the examination mark out of 70. The total, letter grade, and grade point appear immediately. Add the grade to the semester if you want it included in GPA.

GPA and CGPA formulas

Quality points = credit units × grade point
Semester GPA = quality points ÷ credit units
CGPA = quality points (all semesters) ÷ credit units (all semesters)

GPA is one semester. CGPA weights every semester by its credit units, so a 3-unit course counts more than a 2-unit course, and a heavier semester counts more than a lighter one.

TMA and examination

NOUN course materials describe continuous assessment as 30% of the course and the end-of-semester examination as 70%. The continuous-assessment mark is the average of the best TMA scores, recorded out of 30. Add that mark to the examination mark out of 70 to get the course total out of 100.

Confirm the weighting on your current course outline. A faculty can restate the same 30/70 split, and a module can differ. NOUN course information for B.A. Arabic is one published example of the 30% continuous assessment and 70% examination split.

Common questions

How do I calculate my NOUN GPA?
Multiply each course's credit units by its grade point (A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, D = 2, E = 1, F = 0). That product is the quality points. Divide total quality points by total credit units for the semester GPA.
How do I calculate my NOUN CGPA?
CGPA uses every semester, not one. Add quality points from all semesters, add credit units from all semesters, then divide. Saving each semester in this calculator is what turns a GPA into a CGPA.
How do TMA and examination scores become a course grade?
On most NOUN courses, continuous assessment (your TMAs) is marked out of 30 and the end-of-semester examination out of 70. Add the two marks for a total out of 100, then read the letter grade from the 5.0 scale. Confirm the split on your current course outline, because a module can state a different weighting.
What CGPA is First Class at NOUN?
Undergraduate classes on the 5.0 scale are First Class 4.50–5.00, Second Class Upper 3.50–4.49, Second Class Lower 2.40–3.49, Third Class 1.50–2.39, and Pass 1.00–1.49. A course total of 40 is the usual minimum pass (grade E).
